Who was Jack the Ripper? It’s one of the biggest true crime mysteries there is. Multiple suspects have been named over the centuries, but no one has ever been officially identified. Now, the grandson of Inspector Joseph Henry Helson, who was the lead investigator in the murders, has released a trove of documents regarding the notorious serial killer to the public for the first time. These documents shed new light on the nearly 150-year-old case. The archive also contains a copy of the infamous “Dear Boss” letter, marking the first time the name “Jack the Ripper” was used by the killer.
Additionally, many people, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the author of Sherlock Holmes) also investigated the attacks. Doyle believed he had identified the killer. However, over the years, many other names have been brought to light, including the infamous H.H. Holmes, Chicago’s first serial killer.
