Secret Experiments in Antarctica: Whistleblower Interview with Eric Hecker [Part 1]

11/07/2024

Whistleblower Eric Hecker was in Antarctica for a year beginning in November 2010 as an employee of Raytheon Polar Services. He had access to most areas of the South Pole Station—including restricted areas and labs, which all needed a plumber. In the harshest environment on the planet, Hecker learned that the “most boring job in the world,” as he put it, was “broken up by moments of sheer terror.” But it wasn’t only Mother Nature that was different in this environment. He soon realized that the real purpose of the experiments being conducted with the IceCube Neutrino Detector and other compartmentalized projects were something not known to researchers on the rest of the planet.

By talking with scientists at the facility, by seeing activity with his own eyes that didn’t match up with what he was officially being told, and by doing his own research, Eric Hecker put together a bigger picture of Antarctica that few others have ever managed to see. Join Ben Chasteen and Rob Counts for this Edge of Wonder interview that dives into secret space programs, manipulated information, the importance of protecting personnel at the South Pole, laser communication, amazing technology, and how it all affects the “average mortgage payer” when such knowledge is kept from them.
